$7,200 RE/MAX SUPERLEAGUE WINDS DOWN
TEAM NOSEWORTHY JOINS TEAM HARVEY FOR THE 1 vs. 2 PAGE PLAYOFF GAME
FUN ‘N’ FAST FINISHES IN THIRD PLACE
TEAM STRONG AND THERAPEUTIC SERVICES PHYSIOTHERAPY TO PLAY TIE-BREAKER FOR LAST PLAYOFF SPOT
Last Draw, four of the six games were decided by the last rock; this week, just one of the six encounters was a nail-biter. The night started with the 3 teams at 7-3 able to wrap up a playoff position with a win in their final game:
- Team Mark Noseworthy won over A. Harvey and took coveted Second Place (a team with an extra life in the Page Playoff).
- Therapeutic Services Physiotherapy lost to Team Curtis and must play a Tie-Breaker with Team Strong for Fourth Place.
- Fun ‘N’ Fast took Third Place without having to throw a stone against McInnes Cooper (they will play a postponed game Sunday — win and Fun ‘N’ Fast gets Third Place at 8-3 but Team Noseworthy takes the higher position by virtue of their round robin head-to-head win; and a loss Sunday puts Fun ‘N’ Fast in a 3-way tie at 7-4 but they will take Third Place because of their round robin victories over both Team Strong and Therapeutic Services Physiotherapy).
The two other teams still in contention at 6-4 when the night started were Team Colin Thomas (who was eliminated — shutout — by First Place Team Paul Harvey) and Team Heather Strong (who fought into a Tie-Breaker with a win over the recently crowned new Provincial Junior Champion, Team Greg Blyde. The Fourth Place Tie-Breaker is necessary because a team cannot be eliminated from the Playoffs by their head-to-head round robin record.
There follows the scores and highlights for the six matchups this week in the 2016 – 2017 RE/MAX SuperLeague Season:
Make-Up Game: A. Harvey (skipped by Jeff Thomas) were spoilers, scoring 3 multiples and defeating McInnes Cooper (skipped by Trent Skanes) 8-3. McInnes Cooper, the Defending SuperLeague Winner, was thereby eliminated from playoff contention. Thomas held a 5-1 lead at the half and scored three in the 6th end to put the game away (leaving 5 teams in contention for second place and a spot in the 1 vs. 2 Page Playoff Game).
ICE #1: Team Stacie Curtis scored 3 in the first end but gave it back in the 7th end and Curtis had to make a takeout with her last rock for a 7-4 win over former RE/MAX SuperLeague Winners Therapeutic Services Physiotherapy.
ICE #3: Former multiple RE/MAX SuperLeague Winner Team Mark Noseworthy was the 9-1 victor over another former multiple RE/MAX SuperLeague Winner A. Harvey (skipped by Jeff Thomas). Noseworthy scored 3 multiples, the nicest shot being a big weight double takeout in the 4th end that squeezed two frozen stones off the button for a 6-1 lead.
ICE #4: Team Greg Blyde was held to a couple singles (thanks largely to erratic draw weight). Team Heather Strong led throughout and won their must-win encounter 8-2 with the clinching points, a 4-count, coming in the 6th end.
ICE #5: Former RE/MAX SuperLeague Winner Team Colin Thomas was prevented from moving into tie-break position by a 6-0 loss to First Place Team Paul Harvey. Harvey stole 3 in the 5th end for a 5-0 lead. The Thomas foursome gets $210 for their season of SuperLeague play.
ICE #6: Carroll Investments.strategically blanked the opening end, took a pair with hammer in the 2nd end, and was never behind in their 7-2 win over Team Shelley Hardy The Hardy foursome gets $140 for their season of SuperLeague play. The Andrew Taylor skipped foursome gets $70 and their win kept them from being alone in the cellar.
